Golden Gate Philharmonic offers a robust music education program including full orchestral training,  sectional rehearsals, music theory classes, multiple concert performances, an annual Cazadero Music Camp Retreat, and optional chamber music and “gig” programs.

Theory Program

Theory Class and instruction is required for all students, and is included with enrollment.  Our program includes theory instruction from beginner through high-intermediate levels, using  a comprehensive book series with written exercises.  GGP offers Theory Classes as follows:

•  Regular Theory Classes for Beginning to Intermediate Students:
Classes take place weekly on Saturday, 2:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1350 Waller Street, (between Masonic and Ashbury in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood).

•  Each Tuesday at 4:00PM:
We provide assistance and instruction on Tuesday afternoons
from 4:00 – 4:30PM in the cafeteria at SOTA before rehearsals begin. These sessions should be considered a supplement and not a substitute to the regular Saturday classes (unless Saturday attendance is impossible).

Cadet Orchestra students also work on theory with their instructor each Tuesday from 5:30 – 6:00PM.

•  Advanced Theory (Optional):
Mr. Alden Jenks teaches advanced theory on Saturdays at All Saints Episcopal Church from 3:30 – 4:30PM following the beginning/intermediate class. This class is not covered by GGP tuition and subject to additional fees. Please contact office@ggph.org if you are interested in enrolling in Advanced Theory.
